These courses provide industry requirements for VRS labourers, Installers and Supervisors of Permanent Vehicle Restraint Systems and Parapets.
Certification
Awarding Body – Lantra Awards
1-Day Foundation Course All persons looking to begin working on Vehicle Restraint Systems will need to attend this one day course as a requirement to obtain their Green, Labourer, Fiss/CSCS card. The course will include VRS History, Quality Assurance and Sector Scheme Documentation, Industry Terminology, Performance Standards and general components of the systems.
In addition to this course, to be recognised as a Labourer on site, Learners will need to also complete a CSCS Touchscreen test and a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety. (The Level 1 can be completed along with the Foundation Course, additional cost only being the certification fees if required)
This course can be completed at a Training Centre, at your place of work or remotely.
1-Day Installer Course All persons looking to progress from a Labourer to Installer will need to attend this one day course covering the above in greater detail, along with Installation guidance (not to be used in place of your Organisations Risk Assessments and Method Statements), Setbacks and Concrete Foundation Calculations.
To be fully qualified and be able to be named by your Organisation as a Nominated Installer, a Level 2 Diploma will be required to obtain a Blue, Skilled Worker, FISS/CSCS Card and the relevant training for the systems you will be installing. This can be arranged after completion of the Installer course along with any further system training.
3-Day NPSBS Course (1-Day Re-Assessment) All persons working towards becoming an Installer or Supervisor of Vehicle Restraint Systems completing maintenance or repair of the Non-Proprietor Safety Barrier Systems will need to attend this course. Course content will focus on removal and replacement of damaged components, Non-Proprietor Safety Barrier System recognition and gain an understanding of the General Arrangement Drawings
2-Day Hill&Smith Guardrail Course All persons working towards becoming an Installer or Supervisor of Vehicle Restraint Systems completing maintenance or repair of the Hill&Smith Guardrail systems. The course covers Understanding their technical drawings, recognising the differences between their safety fence systems including the ABC and Trend P4 Terminals
The 2-day course can be completed with both days at a training centre in Caldicot, Wales or by prior arrangement, Day 1 theory assessments can be completed in your place of work with Day 2 practical assessments at the training centre
1-Day Brifen Wire Rope Course All persons working towards becoming an Installer or Supervisor of Vehicle Restraint Systems completing maintenance or repair of the Brifen Wire Rope systems. The course covers Understanding the technical drawings, recognising the differences between the safety fence systems and correctly tensioning the systems.

Awarding Body – UK Rural Skills
3-Day VRS Inspectors Course All persons whose role includes inspecting the Vehicle Restraint Systems for damage and to ensure they meet current specifications will benefit from this course. The course covers current documentation, detailing the current rules and regulations regarding the most widely used systems in the UK
1-Day VRS Inspection Awareness Course All persons whose role includes reporting and detailing damage to Vehicle Restraint Systems. The course covers how to recognise the different systems and their components, widely used in the UK
